The Subaru Impreza has an all-new generation for its 2024 model year, returning to the terrain of sportsmanship that had been lost and left for the WRX, which had moved away to be a separate model. Now the Impreza is a hatchback that takes on sporty elements and calls for the return of the RS version.
That’s right, the Impreza RS returns to the lineup after twenty years of standing on the sidelines after being replaced by the WRX in North America as the sportier Impreza.
Subaru Impreza 2024, mechanics:

Mechanically, the RS version is the same as the Impreza Sport model with one clear difference, its engine. While the base trim and Sport get a 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder that makes 152 hp and 145 pound-feet., the RS has a modified version, being in his case a boxer of 2.5-liter four-cylinder producing 182 hp and 178 pound-feet of torque.
All versions of the Impreza come standard with four-wheel drive and an automatic transmission of the CVT type that allows you to select from eight preset ratios, with paddle shifters on Sport and RS.
All versions also get the dual-pinion electronically assisted steering rack from the fifth-generation WRX. According to the brand, it offers a more direct and natural steering sensation and greater responsiveness.
Subaru Impreza RS 2024, design

The RS won’t be available as a coupe like it once was, as every 2024 Subaru Impreza is a four-door hatchback.
Visually, the RS features:
- Exterior accents in gloss black
- new headlights
- Interior details in bronze
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel
- aluminum alloy pedals
- Black fabric upholstered seats with red fabric bolsters
Subaru Impreza 2024, interior

The interior design does not present significant changes compared to what we already know from Subaru, but what does change the landscape are the new infotainment systems. Trims feature the dual-screen setup found on the base Outback and WRX, while the new Sport and RS trims get an updated version of the 11.6-inch upright touchscreen found on those same Subarus.
Continuing in the technological section, 2024 Impreza EyeSight Driver Assist Gets an Update to operate “smoother, faster, and in a greater variety of conditions” and to identify pedestrians and cyclists earlier at intersections. This comes by way of an improved camera, updated software, and a new electric brake booster. When the model is equipped with blind spot warning, automatic steering assist is now added.
The 2024 Impreza is basically the same size on the inside as the previous model. The rear seat is just as roomy, and the cargo area is actually a bit smaller due to the redesigned fenders, but according to Subaru, it’s a difference the owner is unlikely to notice.
Other key enhancements for the new Impreza include a 10% stiffer construction thanks to additional structural adhesives that also reduce weight. Subaru says the front seats were designed to improve comfort, and efforts were made to reduce unpleasant sound frequencies in the cabin.
In short, the 2024 Impreza has the versatility customers have come to expect from Subaru, but with a sportier focus. That includes its standard all-wheel drive, and perhaps that’s more than enough reason for those who love the name and the brand.
Subaru says the new sixth-generation Impreza will begin arriving at dealerships in spring 2023, so pricing will be announced closer to that date.
