Saudi Arabia has always had quite an interest in the automotive world. The fact that it is the largest oil producer in the world would make us think that they would want to create a combustion supercar that would break with current trends. However, after having invested in a firm specialized in electric cars such as Lucid Motors, they have decided to embark on their own adventure. This is how it is born Ceer Motorsthe new brand that has been launched with the help of an Apple supplier.
The creation of this firm is the work of the Arab country through its Public Investment Fund (PIF), but they have also wanted to include the company Foxconn. The Taiwanese multinational known for being the largest manufacturer of electronic components and also for manufacturing Apple products. The directors of the company will be the Saudi royal family and the ministers in charge of managing the country, with the crown prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz as the visible head of the project and the CEO of Foxconn, Young Liu, on the board of directors of the new company.
Ceer Motors has been created to contribute to the development of the country by creating new jobs and increasing the GDP of Saudi Arabia in the next decade. The objective is to attract more than 150 million dollars of foreign investment and create up to 30,000 direct and indirect jobs. This will allow Ceer to contribute up to 8,000 million dollars to the country’s GDP by 2034. All this, while meeting environmental objectives and reducing harmful emissions.
Because it is clear that Ceer Motors will only make electric vehicles and mainly focused on the tastes of consumers of Saudi Arabia and the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa). It is still early to anticipate what their cars will be like, but they already mention sedans and sports utility vehicles. The alliance with Foxconn will also allow them to use more advanced technology. They will provide the infotainment systems, connectivity and autonomous driving technologies. Also, will feature BMW components for use in the vehicle development process.
This taking into account that all its vehicles will be locally produced, through a new factory in Saudi Arabia. The objective is that the first units may be ready by 2025while more information will be arriving in the coming months.
