Total sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles in Turkey increased by 8.7 percent in September of this year compared to September of last year and reached 62 thousand 84 units.
Automotive Distributors Association (ODD) published the “Automobile and Light Commercial Vehicle Market Evaluation Report” for the January-September period and September.
According to the report, total sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles decreased by 6.7 percent in the January-September 2022 period compared to the same period of the previous year, and amounted to 520 thousand 530. In the same period, automobile sales decreased by 8.2 percent to 399 thousand 224 and light commercial vehicle sales decreased by 1.7 percent to 121 thousand 306 units.
Looking at September, the automobile and light commercial vehicle market grew by 8.7 percent compared to September 2021. In September, passenger car sales increased by 2.9 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and became 44 thousand 681, while light commercial vehicle sales increased by 26.7 percent to 17 thousand 403.
The automobile and light commercial vehicle market grew by 0.2 percent compared to the 10-year September average sales. While automobile sales decreased by 5.1 percent compared to the average sales in 10-year September, light commercial vehicle sales increased by 16.9 percent compared to the 10-year September average sales.
Sales by segment and body
When the automobile market is evaluated by segments, 88.1 percent of the market consists of vehicles in the A, B and C segments with low tax rates.
When evaluated according to body types, the most preferred body type was SUV cars with a share of 40.4 percent and sales of 161,321. SUVs were followed by sedans with a 37.5 percent share and 149 thousand 542 sales, and H/B automobiles with a 20.3 percent share and 80 thousand 968 sales.
Gasoline preference continued
When evaluated according to engine type, gasoline cars took a 70.5 percent share from sales with 281 thousand 495 units. Diesel cars had a share of 17.2 percent with 68 thousand 514, hybrid cars a 9.6 percent share with 38 thousand 390 and autogas cars took a 1.7 percent share of the market with 6 thousand 769 units. In addition, 4 thousand 56 electric cars were sold.
In this period, automatic transmission cars had a share of 77.5 percent with 309 thousand 455 units, while the share of cars with manual transmission was 22.5 percent with 89 thousand 769 units.
80.3% of sales are in the 80% tax bracket
According to the special consumption tax brackets and engine types in the automobile market, 80.3 percent of the sales were in the gasoline/diesel engine type and 80 percent in the tax bracket, 7.6 percent in the gasoline/diesel engine type and 70 percent in the tax bracket. .
In the light commercial vehicle market, according to body type, van body type was the most preferred body type with a share of 75.2 percent and 91 thousand 221 units, while pickup truck body type took the second place with a share of 13.2 percent and 16 thousand 11 units. Pick-up, on the other hand, became the third most preferred body type with a 6.8 percent share and 8,293 sales.
