Car of the Year awards in Germany is relatively new, with only four winners to date: the Jaguar i-Pace (2019), the Porsche Taycan (2020), the Honda e (2021) and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 (2022). .
This award is chosen by a panel of 27 journalists and experts, with the aim of recognizing “excellence and innovation in the automotive industry, with a specific focus on German-speaking markets.”
For the 2023 awards, five categories have been defined, and the winners have just been announced (the best model of the year will be defined among them).
Compact: Opel Astra / Astra Sports Tourer
New cars with a basic price less than 30,000 euros.
Premium: Genesis GV60
New cars with a base price between EUR 30,000 and EUR 60,000
Luxury: Land Rover Range Rover
New cars, except extremely low volume cars, with an entry price of more than 60,000 euros.
New energy: Volkswagen ID.Buzz
New cars and derivatives of existing cars with a fully electric or hydrogen-powered propulsion system.
Performance: Ferrari 296 GTB
New sports cars and convertibles, as well as high-performance derivatives of existing cars.
