The Nürburgring-Nordschleife, also known as the Green Hell, is a circuit that became a reference to measure the capacity of sports vehicles. Its curved characteristics and its extensive length give the possibility of demanding both the machines and the drivers to the maximum, and that is why achieving record lap times becomes a feat.
The same thing Mercedes did with the AMG ONE, leading it to be the fastest new production vehicle on that track. With the pilot Maro Engel behind the wheel, the German hypercar set a lap time of 6:35.183beating the previous record holder, Manthey-Racing’s tuned Porsche 911 GT2 RS, by 3.65 seconds.
The Mercedes-AMG ONE features many F1-derived technologies, such as a hybrid powertrain that delivers total of 1,063 hp. Both the monocoque and the bodywork are made of carbon fiber and have active aerodynamics.

Interestingly, the record was set at exactly 5:14 p.m., which is just one minute before the Nürburgring-Nordschleife closes. Record-setting driver Maro Engel, also a DTM driver and Mercedes-AMG ambassador, said: “It was truly an unforgettable experience. I didn’t expect that we would be able to set a lap time like that with these track conditions. In some crucial areas of the track, it hadn’t dried completely yet and was therefore tricky. That was a special challenge.”

This opens the door for Mercedes to even improve its time with a completely dry track, although if we see the video of the record, it seems that there is not much room for improvement, really everything seems to be on the limit.
