Volvo EX90, the new flagship is 100% electric and extremely safe

Although Volvo had already let us see a bit of its new flagship both outside and inside, it finally introduces us to this Fully electric SUV for 7 passengers.

Jim Rowanthe CEO of the brand assures that “it is totally electric, with a range of up to 600 kilometers on a single charge, designed to raise our safety standards even higher, the first Volvo car that is truly defined by its software and part of a larger ecosystem, connecting to your home and your other devices. The Volvo EX90 is the beginning of a new era for Volvo Cars.”

As you can see, it is a versatile and elegant family car with modern proportions, combined with the latest technology in central computing, connectivity and electrification.

The front of the new electric SUV combines the elegance of rounded lines with rimless glass and hidden door handles, ensuring that air flows uninterrupted to the rear. These elements allow the resistance coefficient to be 0.29, which is considered a very competitive figure for a 7-seater vehicle.

With its new fully electric technology base developed by the brand itself, the Volvo EX90 offers up to 600 kilometers of autonomy without exhaust gas emissions on a single charge (according to the WLTP test cycle) and se charges from 10 to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

Initially the version of dual motor four-wheel drive will feature a 111 kWh battery and two permanent magnet electric motors that will provide 380 kW (509 Hp) and 671 Lb-ft of torque.

The Volvo EX90 is the first car from Volvo Cars with the necessary hardware to allow bidirectional charging – depending on the market. It is a technology that can use car battery as additional power supplyfor example to power a house, other electrical devices or another Volvo electric car.

The Volvo EX90 contains a 15 percent recycled steel and 25% recycled aluminum.

He also has 48 kilograms of a new material called Nordic, which is made up of PET bottles, elements with biological attributes that come from the forests of Sweden and Finlandwhich creates an atmosphere of a Scandinavian living room and evokes the Nordic nature.

These recycled plastics and bio-based materials correspond to around 15 per cent of the total plastic used, the highest level of any Volvo model to date.

Both inside and outside, the Volvo EX90 has an invisible safety shield. State-of-the-art sensors such as cameras, radar and lidar are connected to the high-performance mainframe computer, where NVIDIA DRIVE AI Xavier and Orin, Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon Cockpit platforms run Volvo Cars’ internal software to create a view of the 360 degree world in real time.

According to the brand, “our sensors do not get tired or distracted”, because they are designed to respond and react.

Lidar can detect everything during the day or at night, evenat highway speeds.

Inside, special sensors and cameras, powered by their own in-house developed algorithms, measure gaze concentration.

Volvo EX90 features the Occupant Sensing system (seat occupant detection) which does not allow the vehicle to be closed if there is still one person left, in order to avoid accidents that can be caused by heat stroke, for example.

The central screen is 14.5 inches and has Google integrated. The applications and google servicesincluding hands-free help from the Google Assistant, Google Maps navigation, and more from your favorite apps on Google Play, are built right in.

The Volvo EX90 will also be compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay.

In addition, it offers 5G connection to be able to install the applications on the home screen.
