Hybrid and electric zero kilometers concentrated 28% of searches a year ago and now they already surpass diesel and gasoline for the first time.
The imminent entry in 2023 of Low Emission Zones in 149 Spanish cities has accelerated citizen interest in eco-friendly vehicles, to the point that the search for zero-kilometre hybrids and electrics has skyrocketed in the last year, going from from representing 28.6% to 51.8%, according to data from Autocasión.
These data denote the ‘historical sorpasso’ from electrified vehicles to combustion vehiclessince, for the first time, the sum of hybrids and electrics exceeds that of diesel and gasoline, which now remain in 47.7% of searches, when a year ago there were 7 out of 10.
A more detailed photograph of electrified kilometer zero searches in 2022 places conventional hybrids in first place with 25.1% (compared to 14.3% last year), followed by pure electric with 16.1% (versus 7.5%) and plug-in hybrids with 10.6% (versus 6.8%).
This scenario gives clues as to how the Spanish are trying to circumvent the restrictions of the ZBE with cars registered with immediate delivery and a much lower price and, most importantly, with an ECO or ZERO environmental label, just two weeks after its entry. in force.
Fear of LEZs, a new purchasing factor
In this way, the interest of the citizens for the park’s greenest labels grows due to the concern to circumvent the mobility restrictions of the Low Emission Zones. In fact, 5% of car purchases are already due to LEZs, when Until now, Spaniards bought a car driven by the classic dilemma: need or aspiration.
And it is that more than 25 million Spaniards, that is, 53% of the population of our country, will be affected by the implementation of these measures, which, in a first term, will limit the circulation of 3.7 million cars no label, although B and C will also have restrictions.
According to Ignacio García Rojí, an analyst at Autocasión, “the entry into force of Low Emission Zones can serve as an incentive to accelerate the electrification of the parkAlthough many drivers still do not feel prepared for pure electric and prefer an intermediate solution such as the hybrid. The demand is being prepared and this, without a doubt, benefits the Spanish fleet, which, with an average of 13.5 years, is one of the oldest in Europe”.
