Mazda has published some images of its possible electric coupe, dubbed the Mazda Vision Study Model, and which could be the future MX-5.
Mazda has just revealed its medium-term plans and one of its main conclusions is the (almost) total commitment to electric vehicles. Within this announcement, the Japanese brand has shown us the first images of a coupe that could lay the foundations for the future MX-5.
The sketch shows us a elegant two-door sports coupe with a long hood, long hood, short rear overhang, and bulging wheel arches that remind many of previous-generation Mazda MX-5s.
Future MX-5: electric and without gullwing doors
The front grill does not differ too much from what Japanese brand cars usually have, although what seems almost confirmed is the fact that the two butterfly doors you show will not be part of a possible production model.
In the video that Mazda has published you can see, in the final part, the previous generations of the MX-5 are remembered and the current one is shown and everything ends with the images of a mysterious white coupe, which has been baptized as Mazda Vision Study Model.
Mazda’s commitment to electrification means that this future MX-5 will adopt battery-powered mechanicsalthough its benefits or range of autonomy is unknown at the moment.
In fact, the president and general manager of the brand, Akira Marumoto, speaks in the video of the path that leads to carbon neutrality in 2050. The Japanese automaker didn’t get into the EV game until 2020 with the MX-30 and only in select markets. Now, they want to turn this around.
