The smart 1 is a 100% electric compact SUV, which quickly became a sales success in China, and is already being marketed in Europe. It has a four-door body, a 66 kWh NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese) battery, with an estimated range of 440 km. And under the hood, a 200 kW (272 Hp) electric motor drives the rear axle.
As everything happens quite quickly in China, smart is already presenting its second model: the smart 3, which has just been presented by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, in advance of the unveiling that the brand itself will make .
The model, which It’s a kind of coupe-like SUV, it’s built on Geely’s Open Source Modular Platform (SEA), and measures 4.4 meters long, 1.8 meters wide and has a 2.7-meter wheelbase, this is 13 cm longer and 2 cm wider than the Smart 1.
The exterior design, which is the part that corresponds to Mercedes-Benz as co-owner of the firm, replicates the same modern lines that we saw in the smart 1. And just like his little brother, the smart 3 will have rear-wheel drive and the same 200 kW (272 Hp) electric motor produced by Geely Group-owned Weirui E-mobility Technology. The novelty is that there will be a version with all-wheel drive, equipped with two engines and a combined power of 315 kW (428 Hp). The batteries of the smart 3 will be ternary (NMC), and surely the same size as the smart 1. But to know that, we will have to wait for it to go on sale, and that will not happen until the second quarter of 2023.
