It becomes clear that electrification is the way forward by the automotive sector in the coming years. Now that brands are launching more and more products, the infrastructure needs to continue advancing and society can access technology. For these reasons, Spain joins “Accelerating to Zero”a coalition to which around 200 countries have already joined and whose objective is to accelerate the transition towards these zero-emission vehicles.
This alliance, also known by the initials “A2Z”, arose as a result of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, the COP26 that was held in Glasgow (United Kingdom). The goal was set that only electrics were sold in the main markets from 2035 and we must get down to work to achieve it. There are some markets that have more favorable situations, but Spain is at the bottom of Europe and that has to change. So the goal is reduce dependence on fossil fuels sooner.

For example, Transport & Environment, believes that the keys are improve charging infrastructure in our country and introduce a “green taxation” that favors this technology. Now it is the Government that has to make a move to improve this aspect and be in line with what is proposed in “Accelerating to Zero”. There is talk of the need for decarbonization of freight transport also added to that of passenger cars, which continues to grow, but not at the necessary rate.
Because electric sales are estimated to reach 10.6 million units in 2022, assuming an increase of 60% compared to the previous year and achieving more than triple that in 2020. But not in all countries it is going at the same pace and in Spain the market share is still very low. Worldwide, it has a share of electricity of 13.2% of the total in the first semester. Despite this, COP27 warned of the inequality in electric vehicle penetration. That could cause emerging and developing economies to miss out on growth opportunities.
