Mattia Binotto It is already Ferrari history. He resigned from his position as team manager and it is Fred Vasseur who will be his replacement and who will lead Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc from 2023.
The Italian has revealed, in statements collected by ‘GP Fans’, that his most difficult moment was when the Maranello team asked him to tell Sebastian Vettehe his march. The mission that cost him the most was to communicate to the German that he would not be renewed.
“Seb is a great driver and it is not something that only I think. You just have to see what he has achieved: it is something fantastic, outstanding, amazing… At Ferrari we were lucky to have him as part of the team for six important years.”
He says that he not only contributed as a driver: “He contributed a lot as a driver, but more than that, he contributed a lot as a person. It is an irrefutable fact that all Ferrari fans continue to love Sebastian. They were incredible years.”
“It was very difficult for me to have to tell him that we would not renew your contract. That has perhaps been the most difficult task that I have faced throughout my career because when you love a person like that and you really enjoy working with him, it is always difficult to reach the end and have to execute that decision that you have already made,” he explains. And he assures that these “difficulties” made him stronger in his position: “It was also an important moment for my career. Through difficulties, you become stronger. But it is the one that we will remember as the most difficult.”
Between 2015 and 2020 Vettel was part of Ferrari. Two runners-up and 14 victories which were insufficient to put Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes in trouble.
