Aston Martin wants to make a significant leap in Formula 1. For this, it has put everything on the table. Great signings in all areas. Two names have stood out above the rest: that of Fernando Alonso and that of Dan Fallows new technical director.
The team wants to give Fallows almost full power when it comes to car development. A figure similar to the one Red Bull has with Adrian Newley, Considered one of the great gurus of current Formula 1.
Fallows precisely explained what it was like to work with Newey at Red Bull: “I learned a lot from Adrian. We all know what talented he is as a designerBut what people who haven’t worked with him don’t appreciate is how unassuming he is from a technical perspective: there’s no technical swagger about him.”
“Newey has no problem in abandon an idea if evidence appears that supports a different approach. Of course, you believe in your ideas and what you think is right, but if something or someone presents evidence that a different idea is better, you should never be afraid to change course and do things differently, that is the key”, he details.
And that seems to be Aston Martin’s plan: not to be afraid to change. The team already showed in the second half of 2022 that it could change things in the car to find performance.
When Alonso signed for the British they were ninth. At the end of the season they occupied seventh place tied on points with Alfa Romeo and far ahead of Haas and AlphaTauri. A proof of important development.
Aston Martin is very clear about its plan before the arrival of Alonso, a two-time F1 champion. It is well known the requirement that he prints Asturian wherever he goes. And he is in the perfect project because his new team is putting everything on the table to be competitive.
