It had nothing to do with performance. Aston Martin in the first half of the 2022 season compared to the last few races. Scoring became the norm. And for the course that comes the objective is, at least, to be in the fight of the middle zone.
Lance Stroll he is very optimistic. The new companion of Fernando Alonso He has very good news for the Asturian. He is confident and believes that they will achieve it: “I think we had problems at the beginning of the year. We did not have the desired pace, but the team did a great job improving the car.”
“We presented a new package in Barcelona and that was like the beginning of the change. And then from there I think we developed the car a lot. After the summer we progressed a lot. We went from being with almost no chance of scoring points to a much more favorable position”, explains the son of Lawrence Stroll.
Reliability will be a fundamental aspect to be able to fight against Alpine or McLaren: “I think it’s about having clean races. When I look back I think that in the last few races we missed the opportunity to get points, like for example in Austin. We were doing well with both cars and then I had an accident. And on top of that ‘Seb’ had a problem with the pit stop. So we lost a lot of points there.”
“Actually just it’s about being competitive. And then, if we’re fast and competitive, it’s just a matter of making it profitable in the form of points,” Stroll says.
Alonso’s new partner is very optimistic. The team finished tied on 55 points with Alfa Romeo after a stormy start to the season. In recent races it was common to see the green car among the top ten on the grid.
And that is something that Alonso will demand. As minimum. because the asturian does not arrive at Aston Martin to retire. His motivation is still intact and he will demand a single-seater from the team that gives him more joy than the Alpine.
