A former Ferrari driver strongly criticizes Binotto’s management: “He should have left earlier”

Ferrari begins a new stage in 2023. It leaves Mattia Binotto and arrives Fred Vasseur. The former boss resigned from his position after another season in which the team has not been able to compete for the title. It seemed so, but everything fell apart in the middle of the season.

René Arnoux, who was a Ferrari driver in the 1980s, has been very hard on Binotto: “The mistakes he made are unforgivable. I have never been on Binotto’s side.”

“Someone who blurts out that ‘it will be better next year’ doesn’t deserve to be in charge of Ferrari. I would have replaced him a long time ago,” he said in an interview with ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’.

“An approach like this is unacceptable when you lead the best team in the world. You may like it or not Jean Todt, but he would never have said: “it will be better next year”. He won and when he won he thought about the following year. But there are few figures like Todt or Ron Dennis himself,” he details.

Regarding Vasseur, the new head of Ferrari, he warns him: “I don’t know much about him. We have seen the results he achieved with a mid-level team like Alfa Romeo. But directing Alfa and directing Ferrari are very different things.”

“He is sufficiently prepared and I hope he will be able to make the team his own in terms of technology and strategy, without which the F1 World Championship cannot be won,” he explains.

And he asks that he have an “iron fist”: “In Maranello there is a lot of pressure and that makes things difficult. You need someone with an iron fist. You have to think that what matters is the result. Vasseur must do like Todt”.
