Carlos Sainz He also wants to compete to be world champion. That is his great obsession. This has been stated on several occasions. And he hopes that his opportunity may come next spring, when he starts a new course.
In statements collected by ‘Motorsport’, he analyzes the season: “You have to run races better overall, and let’s say the outputs in my particular case. This year we have had problems that have prevented us from making good starts”.
“I also had a problem with the clutch in Abu Dhabi, which made me lose position with Lewis, so I lost five or six seconds because I had to fight him. The other is obviously strategy,” explains the Spanish driver.
For him it is fundamental to be clear with the objectives: “It is important to establish the correct goals and put the right tires on the car on Sunday.”
“We’ve been working on it for a while. And then there are the improvements to the car. If we want to beat Mercedes and Red Bullwe have to update ourselves more than them, and do it well,” said Sainz.
He affirms that they are on the right path, but that it is not a short path: “Rome was not built in a day, so you have to take into account where we come from. If we look at the progress we have made as a team in the two last few years, we can see that we are doing well”. All this in a day in which Mattia Binotto has submitted his resignation.
“Behind closed doors we are very self critical. Before public opinion, we try to defend everyone, not blame the other. And I think we’re doing a good job in that sense, but it’s true that we’ve made several mistakes this year and we all want to do better,” he said.
