The second of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail model, the most expensive car in the world, was in front of the cameras.
Rolls-Royce displayed the second of its unique body-built Boat Tail model at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The purpose-built Boat Tail Convertible, the first model of which was unveiled last year, is the most expensive Rolls-Royce model of all time with an estimated price tag of £20 million.

The second in a series of three cars produced by Rolls-Royce’s luxury arm, Coachbuild, is an extraordinary blend of craftsmanship, intense detail and exuberant opulence. The custom-built car represents the pinnacle of the brand’s bodybuilding capabilities. Designed by a client with respect for the legacy of his father and his family, the car features unique exterior and interior details inspired by mother-of-pearl. Boat Tail is completely handcrafted with body panels molded from large individual sheets of aluminum to create its distinctive contours, inspired by early 20th century racing yachts.
The client presented Rolls-Royce Coachbuild designers with a selection of four pearl shells, personally selected from their exclusive collection for their unique colors and detailing. The veneers were the inspiration for the exterior colour, one of the most complex veneers ever produced by Rolls-Royce. Boat Tail technical fiber lintels feature rose gold woven thread.

The most expensive car in the world is also unique in its design.
The aft deck, which houses the exclusive ‘butterfly design’ suite, is finished in a satin brushed and Royal Walnut finish with rose gold plated stripes for a sleek and sophisticated look. Viewed from above, the harmonious balance and satin effect of the frosted engine hood and tactile wooden aft deck stand in contrast to the brilliant front and side perspectives. From the front, the Pantheon grille, milled from a single solid piece of aluminum, is embellished with the Spirit of Ecstasy in rose gold.

Alex Innes Body Design Unit; “Boat Tail is a big game changer in creativity and creative freedom. Building a car by hand opens up a whole new field of exploration and possibilities. We can achieve and solve difficulties that normal industrialized methods would prohibit. It’s a tale of two worlds: a modern car with a contemporary design made possible by historic techniques and ingrained craftsmanship. It is truly unique. “As a Luxury Home, Coachbuild takes our business to a new level; This is the haute couture of our industry. And for Rolls-Royce as a brand, this is both a return to our roots and a contemporary revolution in traditional automotive manufacturing where we are turning the impossible into an incredible reality.”
