Brands within GM have not been active on Twitter for a long time.
As you know, Tesla’s boss Elon Musk recently bought Twitter. With the US businessman’s acquisition of Twitter, General Motors, Ford and Volkswagen Group brands stopped placing paid advertisements on Twitter.
General Motors announced that it will no longer offer paid advertising to Twitter, but that Twitter will be used to interact with customers. However, it seems that brands within GM have already stopped tweeting.
The official accounts of Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, GMC brands within General Motors do not respond to their users despite many tweets from users. This shows that GM has a new company policy regarding the Twitter platform.
Even though the brand initially stated that it would only stop paid ads on Twitter, it seems to have withdrawn from Twitter completely. For example, we see that many of the company’s senior executives have closed their Twitter accounts.
The managers of other brands that stopped advertising on Twitter continue to use the platform actively. Like Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley, for example. In addition, managers of brands such as BMW, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Renault continue to use Twitter actively.
The reason why brands do not advertise on Twitter is that Elon Musk owns Tesla, the biggest competitor of other companies in the automotive industry. For this reason, many major manufacturers have stopped using the Twitter platform or, at best, have stopped advertising on Twitter.
