Fernando Alonso’s emotional farewell to Sebastian Vettel before his last race

Sebastian Vettel retires from Formula 1. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be the last of the German’s sports career. There are many rivals who have dedicated a few words to the four-time champion, but the most beautiful have come from, probably, his greatest rival: Fernando Alonso.

The Aston Martin driver has won four world titles, all with Red Bull and most of them played against Alonso. Despite a rivalry that went down in history, the Asturian will wear a helmet at Yas Marina in honor of Vettel. And, in addition, he gave him some nice farewell words at the official Formula 1 press conference, with the German by his side listening.

“It’s going to be weird not having him here for the first race next year. We’ve shared a lot in the last 15 years. We have fought for championships and for seventh positions, like in Japan, to the finish line. We still enjoy every battle and respect each other,” Alonso commented on Vettel’s retirement.

Despite the fact that the German beat him in contention for the titles in 2010 and 2012, the Alpine driver is proud that his name is associated with Sebastian Vettel’s career: “My career will be linked to Sebastian’s because we have fought for very big things in probably the best seasons of our careers. Although the results always fell on his side, I think our names will always be linked, or at least mine to his career. Bye Seb.”
