Fernando Alonso I really wanted. She expressed it in the last few races, when the Alpine’s problems made him desperate. And this Tuesday, finally, he got on the Aston Martin. Although this car will have nothing to do with the one he will drive next season.
In Abu Dhabi, in the morning test, Alonso completed a total of 97 laps. His first contact with the car and the most important thing is that there has not been any type of problem.
After the test, the Asturian has been very satisfied. And he has compared this first test with his first days at Ferrariaround the year 2010. A very exciting comment.
“It’s a historic brand, and it’s like when I entered the Ferrari project, you know that it is an iconic brand in the motor world, and now it is Aston Martin. So all these projects have an added bonus, the day went well and I’m very happy,” said the two-time Formula 1 champion.
His confidence has gone from 90 to 100%: “Now I am much more optimistic. When I signed for Aston Martin I was 90% happy. When they started to improve and finished the season well, I was 100% happy. Now, after the test I’m over 100%.”
He was comfortable with the car’s system, very different from that of the Alpine of the last two years: “In Alpine I had to do many adjustments but it’s a good surprise that I’m comfortable with the Aston Martin system.”
Alonso will be the substitute for Sebastian Vettel starting next year. This Tuesday he has shot in a car without sponsors, with a black jumpsuit and a black and white helmet. His contract with the French team is still valid.
Aston Martin’s work
Aston Martin continues to work on the development of the car for next season. A car that they expect has nothing to do with the current one. The team has finished seventh in the constructors’ world championship behind alfa romeo (tied on points in the standings).
His minimum objective for 2023 is to advance in that classification and be able to lead the middle zone. Catching up to Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes does not seem possible in the short term. But the team does not give up anything in the future… especially after the arrival of Alonso.
