Zeus and Hera are stepping down from Mount Olympus, and they’re doing it in style. In the new ad for BMW’s electric car, the two gods are seen driving off in a luxurious BMW, with the caption ” The Future is Electric.” It’s a clever way to show that even the gods are making the switch to electric vehicles, and it’s sure to get people talking about the benefits of electric cars.

People have been comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger to a Greek god ever since the ’70s, when he dominated the Mr. Olympia physique competition year after year and became one of the most famous bodybuilders in the world. The Terminator star’s latest role, as the lightning god Zeus, makes it official.

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in BMW’s new ad campaign, alongside Salma Hayek as Zeus’ wife, the goddess Hera. In the commercial, a barista struggles to pronounce Schwarzenegger’s name correctly, to which the actor replies, “Just call me the Governator.”

The Super Bowl commercial sees the king and queen of the gods (decked out in full sword-and-sandal couture) decide that the time has come for them to retire, and so they move from Mount Olympus to somewhere a little more prosaic: Palm Springs. However, it’s not all golf and walking their pet Pegasus for Schwarzenegger’s Zeus, who finds himself having to use his lightning powers over and over again to help their new friends and neighbors with their finickety appliances, to increasing amounts of frustration.

Hayek’s Hera knows just what Zeus needs: a new car! The BMW iX is “the ultimate electric driving machine” and it won’t need any jumpstarts from a lightning bolt. Zeus and Hera enjoy a leisurely drive through Palm Springs, singing along to ‘Electric Avenue’ by Eddy Grant.

Any fan of ancient Greek mythology knows that Zeus and Hera were not the kind of couple who could retire together happily. Their infidelity, illegitimate children, and bloody vengeance were more their thing. But it’s still pretty neat to see Schwarzenegger and Hayek playing these mythological figures on screen, even if it’s only for a brief time.
