Renault, the first brand to include Waze in its infotainment system

Renault will include the Waze browser in the infotainment system of its cars, starting with the Austral and Mégane E-Tech Electric.

Many drivers use the Waze app as a navigation system when driving in their vehicles. It is one of the most popular along with Google Maps and Apple Maps. However, to use it in the car, it is necessary that the motorist pairs his mobile phone with the car’s infotainment system.

Now, Renault has announced that it is the first car manufacturer to integrate the application Waze satellite navigation in some of its new models. The application has been integrated into the multimedia systems of the new Austral SUV and Mégane E-Tech Electric models equipped with Renault’s OpenR Link infotainment system.

No need to pair the mobile

The objective, indicated by the French brand itself, is to offer motorists a higher level of “comfort and safety”allowing them to use the app without needing to connect or touch their phones.

Waze, owned by Google, uses real-time user data to identify the fastest route, taking into account issues that may affect journey time, such as road works, traffic jams, cars stopped on the road, and hazards such as fog. In addition, it notifies us of the location of the fixed and section speed cameras and alerts us to the presence of the police.

Renault drivers can download the app for free from the Google Play app store, either through the openr media display from your car or through your smartphones with your My Renault mobile application. The app can also be integrated with existing Waze accounts.

“Renault is the first car brand to offer Waze directly on the vehicle’s multimedia screen, without the need to activate the smartphone“, said Jérôme Seror, director of digital customer experience at Renault.

“We are convinced that the large number of Waze users will appreciate this new feature when driving the new Austral or electric Mégane E-Tech. This is clearly in line with our strategy of offering our clients a intuitive, immersive and connected driving experience“, he pointed out.

A car and 99 cell phones, this is how Google Maps is deceived

Although Renault is the first manufacturer to directly integrate Waze as an app accessible through the car’s interior touch screen, it is not the first car company to make use of it. In 2018, Fiat launched the Panda Waze special editionintegrating Waze into your own Uconnect system.
