The Ferrari Enzo is one of the most spectacular cars in history. Barely 399 units were manufactured in all of history, in 2004 unit 400 was assembled to be donated to the Vatican, which auctioned it off for charity and raised 1.1 million dollars.
The car was named after Enzo Ferrari, the creator of the brand, back in 1939 after leaving Alfa Romeo. In addition, it continued the saga of cars with a V12 engine that the firm had begun in 1947 with the 125 S. Presented in 20022 at the Paris Salon, the 399 units of the Ferrari Enzo were sold even before production began, and that the The brand had given priority to those who had bought one of its predecessors, the Ferrari F40 or the F50.
The design of the Ferrari Enzo captivated. On the one hand, it incorporated a large number of Formula 1 technologies… and some elements that are prohibited in the premier class of motorsport, such as active aerodynamics. It reached 355 km/h, completing 0 to 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds.
It was powered by a spectacular 6.0-liter V12 engine at 65º installed in a central position behind the driver, thus achieving a weight distribution of 44% on the front axle and 56% on the rear. With the name Type F140B V12it is a naturally aspirated engine with double overhead camshafts per bank, four valves per cylinder, variable valve timing, fuel injection and produces 660 hp at 7,800 rpm Y 657 Nm of torque at 5,500rpm.
It is an engine that would be a shame not to start it… but it is just what happens on this occasion, an immaculate block. Complete, still in factory box, with all its accessories and sleeves. On its own it could be the centerpiece of any automotive history collection… or it could have been purchased by a Ferrari Enzo owner as a spare unit for one of the brand’s flagship models.
And it is that this very special engine, built by the Italian manufacturer as a replacement unit, was auctioned on December 10 in Miami. It didn’t go unnoticed, as some lucky guy paid for it. $450,000.
