There are times when life brings two people together without expecting it. One such occasion occurred at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where Toto Wolff ( Mercedes team boss) met Pep Guardiolamanager of Manchester City and they felt a connection between them from the first moment.
In an interview for the Formula 1 podcast, ‘Beyond the Grid’, the leader of the German team explained how they met and what he felt when he saw him: “We were together on stage at a meeting organized by Puma. We didn’t know each other, but when I heard him speak it was like listening to myself.. He proved to have the same approach and he said the same thing about me.”
“Our job is reduced to people management and I think that he will definitely be part of the steps I take in the future. Because he and his family are on the same page as Susie (Wolff’s wife) and I, so he has an amazing personality,” he concluded.
Thus, Wolff compared his successes with the Catalan. The German has won eight constructors’ titles at the helm of Mercedes and seven Drivers’ World Championships, while Guardiola has won two Champions League titles and 10 league titles between Barcelona, Bayern and Manchester City.
The harmony between the two was such that Toto Wolff gave the coach of the English club a tour of the Yas Marina circuit and he was surprised by the German’s skills: “You’re very good. I didn’t know you drove like that”.
