The Formula 1 changes its regulations for 2026, simplifying engine regulations and getting even closer to hybridization. This has led many brands to want to enter the ‘Great Circus’, such as Audi or Porsche. The last to ring has been the almighty Fordwhich according to various information, would ally with Red Bull to supply the engines.
The American brand has been historic in Formula 1, although its last appearance was at the beginning of this century under the name Jaguar Racing. Curiously, that team was sold in 2004… to Red Bull. In addition, during the first year of the Austrian team, Ford supplied them with the engines, although under the name Cosworth (an associated company of the Americans).
Now, the possible association would work in the same way. Ford would collaborate on the development of the engine, something that Red Bull is open to negotiating, as Christian Horner stated a few months ago about building its own engines: “We are focused on our power unit and, if there was any partner who could contribute, we would have to consider it“.
However, Mark Rushbrook, head of Ford’s racing department, declined to comment on the rumors at a NASCAR press conference: “We’re here to talk about NASCAR. Of course, there has been a lot of speculation out there, but nothing that we are going to comment on.“.
Therefore, Ford does not deny the rumors of the negotiation that they could be having with Red Bull. And this occurs at the same time that Honda, the brand with which the energy drink team still works, confirmed its registration as a possible motorist from 2026. And it is most likely that they will continue working with the Japanese by then, but the possibility Ford’s is real.
