In statements to ‘Auto Motor und Sport’, he defended Binotto’s benefits: “I don’t understand the change very well. I classify Binotto as an excellent technician and politician. I was just overwhelmed by the task.”
He believes that the problem with the Maranello team is that there was no sports director: “It would have been enough to provide him with a sports director who would support him on the track and with the strategy. With the new man, who has many other jobs, I see a weakening for Ferrari”.
Marko believes that the change of boss will not make Ferrari a candidate. He highlights the “mistakes” of him in a 2022 in which max verstappen he had no rival. “We benefited from Ferrari’s strategic mistakes, from their bad luck, from their engine problems…”, says the adviser to the energy drink team.
And he insists again that his rival will be Mercedes and specifically the seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton: “They are the most stable squad and they have Hamilton. Even if he may have gone down this year, his lap times have repeatedly shown that He’s a first-class man.”
Verstappen’s “quality” and Red Bull’s “strategy”, the keys to the two championships for Marko: “In strategy we were right most of the time and then there is the quality of Verstappen. With him we know that he can drive that strategy demands and that he is soft on the tyres, he has become a true tire whisperer.”
For the next season Marko bets on Mercedes as a great rival of Red Bull. He rules out Ferrari… and doesn’t even mention the teams that come from behind like McLaren, Alpine or the unknown Aston Martin with Fernando Alonso.
