Porsche also focuses on eBikes

It’s not just about electric sports cars. Porsche faces the new era of electromobility from a holistic perspectiveand that is why it sees great potential in the electric bicycle segment, which has led it to expand its activities in this area.

Today, the brand participates in this segment in three different areas: it sells eBikes under the Porsche brand, works on technology development, and has shares in other companies in the field.

Porsche eBike Sport and eBike Cross

Today two models created with its partner Rotwild are sold under the Porsche brand: the eBike Sport and the eBike Cross. Both are available at Porsche Centers, in the store on-line Porsche and Porsche Design. There are three frame sizes: S (for approximately 1.56-1.70m tall rider), M (1.68-1.82m) and L (1.80-1.94m). Prices range from 10,900 euros for the Sport and 8,900 euros for the Cross.

The first is an ideal means of transport for the city and also for off-road trips thanks to new Continental tires. The motor is Shimano EP-8 and the battery has a 630 Wh capacity, providing adequate pedal assistance. and facilitates rapid acceleration.

It is equipped with the Magura MCi system, in which all the hydraulic elements of the brakes are hidden inside the handlebar: pump, tank and pipes. Also they are protected in case of falls and safe from contact damage. It stands out for its Supernova M99 lighting and allows you to link your smartphone to the bike.

The eBike Cross is a bicycle more focused on sports activity. The EP-8 motor is a great help on the steepest ramps and in difficult areas, especially in combination with the fast Shimano XT single chainring with 12 sprockets. On tricky descents and trail areas you can engage Crankbrothers’ hydraulic dropper post, which lowers the saddle from a control on the handlebars and raises it again in the same way afterwards.

Suspension consists of a 120-millimeter-travel Fox 34 Performance fork and a swingarm with a 100mm travel Fox Float DPX assembly. This combination offers a smooth ride as well as providing a wide range of uses for this bike.

Future propulsion systems

Porsche has founded two joint ventures with the Dutch company Ponooc Investment BV: Porsche eBike Performance GmbH and P2 eBike GmbH.

The former will develop and produce powerful drive systems under the Porsche brand for two-wheelers, which will be used in future Porsche models and will also be supplied to other manufacturers. Its objective is to create the integrated assembly of the propulsion system, which includes the motors and the batteries.as well as the necessary programming to coordinate them with the connectivity solutions.

P2 eBike GmbH will use these drive systems for a new generation of electric bicycles from Porsche from the middle of this decade.

new shares

Fazua is a complement to Porsche eBike Performance GmbH as it produces compact drive systems. Well, Porsche took over a 20% stake in Fazua in January 2022 and, four months later, acquired the company as part of a plan to expand its operations in the electric bicycle sector.

In December 2021, Porsche acquired the majority of the shares of Greyp Bikes, a pioneering company in the field of connectivity applied to bicycles. Its catalog currently includes mountain and city bikes, in both cases pedal assisted. Both have a connection to smartphone and has developed a specific application perfectly coordinated with the bicycle.

Cyklær is an innovative and sporty range of electric bicycles developed by Porsche Digital in collaboration with the Storck brand.. It combines a carbon frame with a timeless design with high-quality elements and integrated sensors, such as front and rear cameras.
