One of the summer soap operas in Formula 1 was the mess Oscar Piastri- Alpine. The French team announced that the Australian would be his pilot for 2023, but he denied it and announced his signing for McLaren, which will ultimately be his team. Although months have passed, since Enstone they have not forgotten the decision.
otmar szafnauerhead of the Alpine team, was blunt in an interview with ‘RacingNews365’ about what he believes the future will hold for Piastri: “Species that collaborate survive. Species that are selfish perish. It’s a true story and so it can be applied to Formula 1 too, but we’ll see what the future brings.”
The Romanian manager, who has already stressed on different occasions that he expected more loyalty from PiastriHe confessed that he spoke with the CEO of Alpine, Laurent Rossi, about whether to continue with the young pilots program since they had financed the Australian’s career so that he would end up going to another team without debuting with the French.
“When something like that happens, you look at everything. I think Laurent said we had to reconsider that if we spend this money and take pilots to a certain place and they want to go to other places, should we really be doing this? It’s something what we consider, but we will remain committed to the young pilots program and the academy”, he concluded.
