Within the framework of the celebrations for reaching 670,000 units produced on the MEB platform, Volkswagen announced that it will update the base and that it will expand the production of the ID.3 in Germany. However, the most prominent announcement was the creation of a new model, which will be added to its family of electric vehicles (ID).
New Volkswagen ID: What is known?
Will the new VW SUV be like this?
The future Volkswagen ID will be an SUV, just as today’s automotive fashion dictates. It is expected to have a size similar to that of the Tiguan, so it would measure about 4.5 meters long. In the brand’s offer it would be located between the ID.3 and the ID.4. In addition, the MEB platform update will be the protagonist of the new vehicle. According to VW, what will be the MEB+ will allow a higher charging speed and greater autonomy, thanks to the use of a new unified cell battery, development presented by the brand at the beginning of 2021.
As a result, the future ID would have a charging speed of between 175 and 200 kW, and a range of up to 700 kilometers. To give you an idea, in these sections the ID.3 presents 124 kW and 420 kilometers (WLTP cycle).
About the new model, Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen, commented that the SUV is the largest vehicle segment in the world, which does nothing more than explain part of the causes of the new step forward taken by VW. In addition, he assured that it would ideally complement the ID.4 and ID.5, in order to further expand its position in the market.
The Wolfsburg brand did not disclose when it will start producing the new vehicle, but it is expected to do so from 2024, in his hometown. He also did not announce the markets in which it will be presented, so, a priori, it would not seem unreasonable to think about it for our region, even if it is in a few years.
