The Formula 1 calendar for 2023 is now official. There are 24 races, as long as a circuit is found to replace the Chinese Grand Prix. And those dates do not convince max verstappen, two-time champion of the competition, who has always been critical of this section and also of sprint races.
The ‘GMM’ news agency has made public some statements by the Dutchman in which he denounces that they are “too many” races: “It is the main reason why I do not want to continue here until I’m 40doing so many trips and having so many activities every year is not good for your health.”
“I like it a lot, but you have to put a lot of things aside. It sounds crazy, since being in Formula 1 is a dream for many,” says the Red Bull driver.
With the passage of time, he wants to give more priority to his family and those closest to him: “You’re always a long way from home and the people you love. The reality is that when I can’t take it anymore, I’ll stop, it’s that simple.”
“I hope that by then I have been able to inspire a new young generation, so that when I leave, we will have new talents ready. When I am 31, there will already be some,” says the still 25-year-old pilot (very young for a whole two-time champion).
Regarding how his father ‘introduced’ him into the motor world, Verstappen is very clear that he would do it differently: “I want to have children and if they want to run, that’s fine with me. I think I would do it differently than my father did with me, but it’s easy to say now.”
“The passion he had went a long way, he did everything for me, putting engines and karts readyI don’t see myself doing that. Nor am I going to put pressure on my children, they have to want it,” the Dutchman completed.
