In recent times we have seen that one of the most detected failures in ITV they have to do with the brakes. And it is no longer just for passing the technical inspection of vehicles favorably, but because the braking system is one of the most important to guarantee the safety of a car. A irregular braking in your car It is usually synonymous with something not working well. It is important to be able to detect it in time, before any misfortune occurs, and put a solution to it so that the fault does not go any further.
Detect irregular braking in the car
We know the irregular braking of this problem that consists in the fact that not all wheels are braked with the same intensity. This is usually caused by some type of wear or failure in the system of one of the wheels, which brakes less than the rest and causes the vehicle to become unstable. The truth is that it is usually quite easy to detect due to that erratic behavior when stopping the car. It is usually translated into the fact that the vehicle tends to go to one side, when in normal situations it offered stable and totally straight braking.
When there are tools, it’s easier to make sure there’s a problem. For example, in the ITV and in the workshops it is usually check with a brake tester that measures the force and time of braking. Irregular braking can also be the result of problems with the tire pressure or a marked wear of any of them. On the other hand, it would be interesting to check that the wheels are well aligned to rule out another possible cause for this irregular braking.
Solve the irregular braking of the car
Once detected, it is time to solve the irregular braking of the car. That happens by focusing on the different parts of the braking system to review all its components one by one.
- Brake discs: that there are grooves in the brake discs can be the cause of irregular braking. You have to check it with a comparator watch that sees the deviations on the surface of the disc and if any are found above 0.3 mm, replacement would be recommended. It is also important to see with a micrometer that the thickness is the same at all points on the disc.
- brake pads: It may be common for one of the brake pads to have worn more and is causing irregular braking. A change is recommended every 60,000 kilometers for the front and around 120,000 kilometers for the rear. In any case, it depends a lot on the use that is given to the car and the type of driving. Squeaks and warning lights can help you know when to change them.
- brake calipers: The brake calipers are responsible for the pad biting the disc and for the vehicle to stop. That they are in poor condition can also cause irregular braking and could be checked using a brake tester.
- Brake fluid: The fluid that goes into the brake system should be changed approximately every two years to guarantee its proper functioning. If this is not done, problems can appear and lead to other faults that cause irregular braking.
