Patrick Tambayformer pilot of Formula 1 from teams like Ferrari, McLaren or Renaulthas lost his life at the age of 73 after fighting against the Parkinson’s, in addition to having diabetes. He is one of the 113 drivers who has won at least one Formula 1 race.
In fact, he won two, both with Ferrarione in 1982 and another in 1983. His performance was key for the Italian team to win the constructors’ championship.
“All in Ferrari We are very saddened by the news of the death of Patrick Tambay. He has been one of the stars of the 1980s, with two victories for the ‘Scuderia’, which were very important in the two Constructors’ Championships won in 1982 and also in 1983“, said the Italian team on its official Twitter account.
The Frenchman joined the team in the middle of the 1982 season, replacing the deceased Gilles Villeneuve. Only two races after his debut, he managed to get on the podium in Silverstone. That same year, he would achieve one more podium and his first victory in Germany.
The year 1983 was in which he was able to enjoy a full season. he won in Imola and achieved another four podiums in Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada and Silverstone. From there, he would leave the Italian team to sign for Renault.
With the French team he would achieve the last three podiums of his sports career, between 1984 and 1985. But that would not be where his career would end, since in 1986 he signed for Haaswhere he would only achieve two points in the entire season.
“I am saddened by the news of the death of Patrick Tambay. He was a great talent and an ambassador for Formula 1 throughout his life. We will all miss him and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time,” were the words of Stefano Domenicalihead of Formula 1.
