Fernando Alonso responds to those who call him ‘old’… and explains his “fear” of the future

There are many criticisms that it has received Fernando Alonso for continuing in the Formula 1 with 41 years. However, he has stated on many occasions that he will continue in the Formula 1 As long as you continue to feel fast in a single-seater.

And it is that the Asturian stands out in an interview with ‘Auto Motor und Sport’ that he is still just as fast as his rivals on the track: “I guess I’m just as fast as the rest. That gives me nothing.”

He also points to his race management as one of his greatest virtues: “My satisfaction comes from the races in which I can make the difference with my head. Because I plan the race better and make the right decisions at the right time“.

Regarding the criticism for his age, he assures that this only gives him advantages over young drivers: “If a young driver overtakes you on the last lap in a physically demanding race because he is a little fitter, then age would be a handicap. But that never actually happens. Otherwise, old age only brings advantages. I can extract things from a huge database of experiences“.

“In Montreal we only did a few laps in the rain before qualifying. I know the track in the rain from the past, I’ve probably driven there five or six times on a wet track.age suits me then?”, Explain.

Aston Martin, the ideal place to be a champion in the future

Alonso assures that he is now in the perfect place to be champion again in the future: “I love what I do. Of course I would like to have a car that can fight for the title. But there is no place for me there. Otherwise what was thereAston Martin is one of those teams that can achieve that goal in two or three years. That’s important at my age.”

“As long as there’s only a one percent chance of winning the title again, I’ll keep going.. And if it doesn’t work as a driver, maybe in a role outside the car. If we then become world champions, that would also give me satisfaction, because then I could say that i helped build it. I am happy to start a new project and make it successful as soon as possible”, says the Asturian, who does not rule out being in Formula 1 in the future in a role other than that of a driver.

What comes for Alonso after Formula 1?

The two-time world champion Formula 1 He explains that right now he has nothing in mind for the distant future: “Yes, I am afraid of the after. I don’t have a plan B. I’ve been a runner all my life and that’s the only thing I’m good at because I haven’t learned anything else. My life has always been dedicated to motorsport. And what I do best in this sport is drive. As long as I feel that I can still give my best, I will continue in F1 for two or three more years.“.

“If one day I have to retire from the Formula 1I will do other races. A victory in the Dakar it would still be a challenge. Because no one has done it in this combination before. But sitting at home scares me,” she concludes.
