The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be the last of Sebastian Vettel’s Formula 1 career. The German retires after 16 seasons and four world titles. All the pilots are giving him special treatment during this weekend and even Fernando Alonso He has acknowledged that he will be attentive to what the Aston Martin driver does in the race.
The Spaniard starts tenth, just behind Vettel, and has assured after qualifying that he will be “careful” with him at the start: “He starts ninth, and I’m tenth, so I’ll be careful into the first corner and hopefully we’ll both see the checkered flag.”
The German has matched his best starting position this season, something that has made the Spaniard happy: “I am very happy, not all of us are going to try to help him, but I am going to keep an eye on him when I have him behind in the mirrorsor when he comes on a fast lap, because we all want it to be a comfortable weekend for him.”
Surely the Alpine driver, like Formula 1, has prepared something for Vettel’s farewell. The German, together with Lewis Hamilton, fired the Asturian on the same Yas Marina circuit in 2018, escorting him during the lap of honor and then spinning together. A similar gesture is expected, now with Sebastian Vettel in the spotlight.
