Owning a classic car

Owning a classic car is often a matter of love. The owner of a classic car knows that the project is never finished. Once the old tool is running, other parts usually need to be restored.

For the serious classic car enthusiast, garages, car lifts and tools are essential elements in restoring old vehicles. Everyday mechanics focus on keeping them at car shows or at least competition that is road worthy and fun to drive. Vehicles with automatic elevators, which are at least 25 years old, are more easily maintained. These repairs are specific to older cars and often require the car to be airborne to access parts that need refurbishment, repair or replacement. Some popular projects include rear end replacement, exhaust system, transmission and brake system.

Rear end

Changing a vehicle’s rear end affects how the vehicle is handled and improves safety. Owners can also change the rear differential to another ratio, reducing wear on other parts and improving fuel mileage performance and speed in the process. Access to the differential and attached parts can be done on ramps with a vehicle, but is easier and faster when the mechanic can work on them under an automatic lift.

Exhaust system

This project involves more than replacing dull stainless steel tailpipes with shiny chrome tailpipes. The exhaust system runs almost the entire length of the vehicle. Using a car lift for these projects makes it faster, safer, and more comfortable for weekend warriors. It is especially important to clearly see that all spare parts are bent properly and do not interfere with or rub against other parts.

Brakes

Brake systems are very different today than they were decades ago. Many vehicle owners replace their vehicle’s drum brakes with disc brakes to make the vehicle safer. This often involves replacing the proportioning valve, which is time consuming and cumbersome without automatic removal and difficult to do with ramps alone.

Infection

Transmissions in classic vehicles are a common love affair. After 100,000 miles, most need to be replaced or redone. With an average of 10,000 miles per year, most classic cars need a new transmission or beyond. With the right tools, an auto lift, and a friend to help, this project becomes easier and keeps the vehicle on the road and out of the junkyard for a long time.
