With a top speed of 420 km/h, the Bugatti W16 Mistral becomes the fastest convertible in the world.
It is not the first time (nor will it be the last) that Bugatti surprises us with a supercar with incredible performance. This is the case of the new Bugatti W16 Mistral, the fastest roadster in the world with a top speed of 420 km/h.
The French manufacturer has created another unique piece for those who can spend the 5 million euros that has as a fee this Mistral. And they won’t be many, since only 99 copies will be made, which we fear may be out of stock when you read these lines. Bookable from now, the first deliveries will not reach their powerful owners until 2024.
420 km/h top speed for the Mistral
The engine that serves as the heart of this Mistral is the already known W16 8.0 liter with four turbochargers that is capable of taking the Chiron Super Sport and Super Sport 300+ to a record speed of 490.5 km/h. Although the W16 Mistral doesn’t come close to that figure in terms of top speed, it does take a clear step forward compared to the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse roadster which stuck to 409 km/h.
To reach such a high speed, the aforementioned 420 km/h, the Bugatti W16 Mistral must be set to “Top Speed” modewhich tunes the car by optimizing the rake of the rear wing to minimize drag and make the roadtser as effective as possible at cutting through the wind.
Despite this speed, Bugatti maintains that the hypercar remains stable at high speeds thanks to its diffuser designwhich offers plenty of downforce and does so without the drag penalty that comes with a wing.
Bugatti: no to SUVs and electric ones in at least 10 years
This isn’t the first car Bugatti has built on the Chiron platform (the Divo and Centodieci are two other examples), but the Mistral’s lack of a roof means it’s likely to be the only one that offers a radically different driving experience.
