The intermediate option of the purist sports car

In these times, marked by SUVs and electrification, many users yearn to have a purist sports car to get away from current trends. The Caterham Seven 340 could be an ideal option for many of them, especially for those looking for a second car that offers the maximum enjoyment without compromise. It is a copy that is placed in the middle part of the range of this British firm, replacing the previous Seven 275. It is halfway between the Seven 170 and other more radical ones such as the Seven 420 CUP.

The model it replaces used the 1.6-liter Ford Sigma engine, but they have been forced to replace it now that its production has ended. The Seven 340 mounts the 2.0 liter Duratech of the signature of the oval, a four-cylinder atmospheric block that is ideal for this copy. Delivery 170 hp and 174 Nm of torque, which is 25% more than the previous one, with only 2% more emissions and maintaining the emission standards in force on the European continent. It is still tied to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Caterham models have always stood out for their power-to-weight ratio and in the Seven 340 it will continue to be outstanding. Weight just over 500kgBoth that figure and the final performance of the model are still pending approval. What they do tell us is that it can be configured in two different flavors depending on the tastes and needs of the owner. The Seven 340S (which carries the S-Pack) is more suited to everyday use with road suspension, 14-inch wheels, a full windshield, or black leather seats.

On the other hand the Seven 340R (with the R-Pack) is slightlymore radical and roadworthy. It does this with a limited-slip differential, sport-tuned suspension, 15-inch Orcus alloy wheels, four-point harnesses, a carbon-fiber dash, and a composite aero screen. In both versions come components such as new LED taillights and other details such as seats, body color and more customization options can be configured.

The Caterham Seven 340 is still built by hand in the UK and all orders have to be made at the factory, they do not work with stock. Anyone interested in a 340S, who knows he has a starting price of 45,700 euroswhile whoever wants to opt for the 340R will have to pay 47,200 euros.
