There are currently two Spaniards in Formula 1. Two, which could be three if Fernando Alonso extends his stay in the Gran Circo, if Carlos Sainz continues as everything seems to indicate that it will happen and if the ‘prophecy’ of McLaren with Alex Palou is fulfilled.
Because the British brand, one of the great legends of F1, sees the Catalan with potential to be able to compete in the World Cup.
“The test program is vital for us. We have to complete two Free Practice sessions with novice or inexperienced drivers. We want to take advantage of it with whoever has the potential to make it to F1,” said Zak Brown.
And he continues: “We have people like Pato O’Ward and like Alex Palou, who has won the championship. He has done a great job, very good, in some tests with us.”
“You never know if suddenly a pilot is going to test positive for COVID. You need a substitute. We need them to be able to help us on race weekends”argues Brown in words that are collected in ‘Motorsport’.
Because the big boss of McLaren has full confidence in Palou: “It has enormous potential.. We want to give them as many opportunities as possible to see what the future holds.”
