Alex Palou will be reserve driver at McLaren by 2023

McLaren has a new driver. The team has announced that the Spanish Alex Palou he will be their reserve driver for next season. This was confirmed by the team in a statement this Thursday.

Palou will be behind Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, the two starting pilots. And he could have the opportunity to drive the car for a weekend in case either of them is dropped.

Thus ends the soap opera Palou. This summer McLaren announced the signing of him, although everything went wrong in the IndyCar. He finally participated in Free Practice 1 of the United States Grand Prix, setting the best times of the debuting drivers in that session.

In statements collected by McLaren, Palou has been very excited: “I am excited to be part of the McLaren team as one of their reserve drivers in 2023. I’ve been behind the wheel of the MCL35M and MCL36 and it’s been a great experience so I can’t wait for involvement with next year’s car.”

“I look forward to continuing my development as a driver and I appreciate the confidence that McLaren has in me with this new role next year,” the Spaniard completed.

McLaren has highlighted his achievements. Andreas Seidl “He has many notable achievements in motorsport so far, particularly the 2021 IndyCar title, so it’s brilliant to be able to expand his role with the team and we look forward to working more closely with him,” he said.
