Mario Andretti He is pursuing that old dream of having his own team in Formula 1. And now it seems that this dream is close to being fulfilled. And he doesn’t want to do it alone, he would love to land in the competition by the hand of Fernando Alonsonow in Aston Martin.
In an interview with ‘Soymotor’, he revealed that he would love to sign the two-time champion of the competition. In addition, he has detailed his plan to have a new team: “At the moment I think we have run out of some of those opportunities. We have been working to potentially buy some present equipment”.
“Right now those possibilities don’t seem too clear, so we’re still trying to be the 11th team. You’ll see we have a good plan“, says the former Formula 1 champion.
“Ultimately, the operational team would be in the UK, but the main hub would be in Indianapolis, mainly because most of the equipment to build the chassis and everything would be there,” he explains.
His intention is to achieve it by 2024that is, within just one season: “I think 2024 is the goal because you try to organize a lot of things before the new regulation of 2026 arrives. The sooner you start, the better. We are having discussions with the FIA and I can say that there are many things that are progressing.”
“We are still hoping that it will happen in 2024, but if that is not possible, of course that we would like to be in 2025. But we are going to try very hard to be on the grid in 2024,” Andretti said, who dropped the bombshell that his arrival in F1 could be hand in hand with Alonso.
