Ford GT Mk IV 2023, the modern legend and his triumphant farewell

The Ford GT will say goodbye soon. Being a limited production car, it was something that had been known since it was released in 2016, the same year that Ford celebrated 50 years of that victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Ford GT40. Not only that, that same 2016 they entered the GT to run at Le Mans and again won the race with first and third place in the LM GTE-Pro category.

For the last customers of the GT, Ford presented a street version called LM Editionbut for those who want the ultimate experience, Ford Performance, in conjunction with the Multimatic team (who make the Ford GT) have introduced the Ford GT Mk IV, a bit like paying tribute to the car that made Ford great in motorsport history. These two models are added to other special versions that Ford has launched during the year.

“The original Ford GT40 Mk IV held nothing back in order to achieve maximum track performance and this new Ford GT Mk IV does the same,” said Mark Rushbrook, the global director of Ford Performance Motorsports. “With a higher level of motorsport engineering and performance, plus a new carbon fiber bodywork that is as functional as it is eye-catching, this Mk IV is the ultimate sendoff to the third generation of this supercar.”

Multimatic is only going to make 67 cars, because obviously, it was in 1967 when the GT Mk IV won Le Mans (Ford won for four consecutive years). Its price is 1.7 million dollars and at the beginning of next year the clients will be selected, to then continue with the deliveries towards the middle of 2023.

“The brief that was delivered to us as Multimatic said to create the most extreme final version of the Ford GT and the Mk IV is the result,” declassifies Larry Holt, executive vice president of Multimatic. “We have a larger engine, a racing gearbox, a wider platform and radically designed bodywork, all of which result in an unprecedented level of performance. We are very proud to have been able to be part of the third generation of Ford GT from its birth to this incredible farewell and we consider it an important chapter in the history of Multimatic.”

The brand did not want to give more details, but with the information we have, the 3.5-liter V6 will increase its displacement and could reach 800 Hp. The bodywork is truly striking, still very recognizable as the Ford GT, but with more discreet LED lights, NACA ducting, sealed turbofan-style wheels, futuristic widenings, and a long-tail setup with a big spoiler.

Drawing parallels, the Ford GT40 Mk IV it was “powered” by a 427 Cubic Inch Ford V8 engine and a running gear with a unique cooling system, as well as a more aerodynamic body, which featured glued aluminum “honeycomb” structures.
