Esteban Ocon He is an optimistic person with the future of Alpine. The development of the car during 2022 has been positive, so much so that the Frenchman sees the team fighting with the leaders in 2023.
“I think we can fight the leaders. We are on the right path and it is the hardest step. Between fifth and fourth everything is very even, but between fourth and third there is a much bigger gap and I’m not going to say it’s easy to reduce from the start,” he told ‘RacingNews365’.
To show this confidence in Alpine, Ocon looks at the development of the car this season: “With our development this year, if we continue in this vein during the winter, 2023 can be very promising. At some point the big teams are not going to find more ideas and we will reach its height. We are the next in line and therefore the next ones that should enter the fight.”
In addition, the Frenchman highlighted that his performance this season has been the best since he joined the Enstone team: “We are in a good moment and I am confident that we will continue this path of improvement. From a personal point of view, I think that I have taken a step forward in several aspects. I have been able to get the most out of the car more times than last year. I’ve identified more things from the sim and it only took me four or five races to get the car set up.”
