Hybrid Car
Changes in the automotive world are ongoing, with each new technology replacing the previous one. Hybrid engine technology has dominated cars with gasoline and diesel engines for a long time, but is now being replaced by newer technologies. So what is a hybrid car and how does it work?
We have compiled for you a list of the most popular hybrid car brands and the most frequently asked questions about hybrid vehicles. Hybrid vehicles are becoming increasingly popular due to the negative effects of fossil fuels on the environment.
What is a hybrid car?
Hybrid cars, as the name suggests, are hybrid vehicles that can use two different engine types together. Hybrid cars, which have both a gasoline-powered internal combustion engine and an electric motor, are distinguished from the others by combining the advantages of both engine types at the end of the day.
How Does a Hybrid Car Work?
When you open the hood of a hybrid vehicle, you can see that it is very similar to a gasoline-powered car. As a matter of fact, hybrid vehicles have engines, transmissions, timing belts and many different mechanical parts. So how does a hybrid car work?
Hybrid cars are divided into four categories: full hybrid, mild hybrid, serial hybrid and plug-in hybrid:
Full Hybrid: Full hybrids, also known as parallel hybrids, can independently use an internal combustion engine and electric motor to power the vehicle. In order to contribute to fuel economy in this type of vehicle, electric batteries are used in most of the driving. All-electric full hybrids in low speed and stop-go traffic in the city generate electricity for the batteries every time the vehicle slows down, thanks to its regenerative braking system. If the batteries run out, only the gasoline engine is activated.
Mild Hybrid: Mild hybrid cars also have an internal combustion engine and an electric motor; however, the two cannot be used interchangeably. As with full hybrids, energy is produced to be stored in batteries during braking. In mild hybrid cars, the gasoline engine kicks in only when the batteries need it.
Series Hybrid: Series hybrid cars usually do not have a connection between the gasoline engine and the wheels. This means that the car’s power is completely dependent on the electric motor. The gasoline engine powers the electric batteries, increasing the range. This type of vehicle is not preferred for performance driving, especially since it provides advantages in stop-start driving.
Plug-in Hybrid: Plug-in hybrid cars are powered by an external energy source to charge the batteries, just like electric vehicles. These models, which stand out as the closest option to fully electric vehicles, can also be driven by an electric motor. It should also be noted that since they have much larger batteries compared to others, they offer a good performance in fuel efficiency.
Which Brands Produce Hybrid Vehicles? The hybrid vehicle market, worth $251 billion in 2022, is expected to grow by 26.5% to reach $1,666 billion by 2028. Due to falling battery production costs and strict government emission laws, more and more brands are trying to have a say in the hybrid market.

Some of the best hybrid car brands are listed as follows:
