Interesting Facts About Lamborghini

  1. Automobili Lamborghini SpA is an Italian automobile company that specializes in luxury, high-end sports cars. It is headquartered in Sant’Agata Bolognese, near Bologna, Italy and was founded in 1963 by Italian engineer Feruccio Lamborghini.
  2. Automobili Lamborghini SpA was founded as a result of the rivalry between Feruccio Lamborghini, who at that time was already a famous sports car manufacturer, and Enzo Ferrari (from Ferrari cars). Feruccio Lamborghini was a successful engineer; He was the owner and director of a successful company that produced agricultural machinery. Feruccio loved sports cars and owned a Ferrari 250 GT. According to a rumor, a dispute broke out between the two major manufacturers after Lamborghini personally turned to Enzo Ferrari due to a broken clutch on his Lamborghini Ferrari 250 GT. It is believed that the quick-tempered Enzo advised Feruccio to deal only with tractors and not even touch a sports car. Feruccio Lamborghini took it as a determined challenge to use his assets, experience and passion for starting a company. Automobili Lamborghini SpA was the result of that challenge, and it has been a successful sports car manufacturer ever since.
  3. Though it may come as a surprise to some, Lamborghini has not entered any major motorsport competition. According to the will of Feruccio Lamborghini, his company stayed away from racing because the famous Italian engineer always believed that motorsport was a huge waste of time and resources.
  4. Some of the finest professionals in the automotive design industry have worked on Lamborghini’s visual design, including Franco Scaglione, Touring, Zagato, Mario Marazzi, Bertone, ItalDesign and Marcello Gandini.
  5. When you think of Lamborghini, people often think of luxury and high-performance grand tourers. However, the Italian automaker has also created several unusual models – one of which is the Lamborghini LM002 SUV. Feruccio Lamborghini had extensive experience in tractor manufacturing, so it seemed natural for him to try his hand at designing a car with high off-road capabilities. The Lamborghini LM002 was the first SUV produced by the Italian vehicle manufacturer. Combining speed and luxury with exceptional off-road capabilities, the Lamborghini LM002 was ahead of its time in many ways. Only Land Rover could compete with the LM002 when it comes to comfort and ability to traverse rough terrain. Unfortunately, the auto market wasn’t quite ready for the new luxury SUV. Therefore, despite the orders of the armed forces of Saudi Arabia and Libya, the Lamborghini LM002 was only produced for a few years.
  6. The Italian automaker Lamborghini launched its first production model, the 350GTV, in 1963. With a top speed of 280 km/h, it was the leader among production cars of its time.
  7. The Italian company Lamborghini follows a very specific naming convention for its car models. Feruccio Lamborghini, the company’s founder, was a huge fan of Spanish bullfighting. In 1963, he visited the cattle farm Miura in Seville. It belonged to Don Eduardo Miura Fernandez, one of the most famous fighting bull breeders in Spain. This visit had a strong impact on the Italian industrialist. In fact, he was so fascinated by the traditional art of bullfighting that he decided to name all his new sports cars after the famous fighting bulls. Traditionally, in Spanish bullfighting, bulls that manage to beat a matador are brought to life and their names are forever written in the history of the sport. Ferruccio Lamborghini was convinced that the name of a fighting bull would emphasize the untamed nature of sports cars created under the Lamborghini brand. By the way, Ferruccio Lamborghini himself was in a sense a Taurus, because his zodiac sign was Taurus.
  8. Lamborghini Miura was the first model introduced to the world under the name “Taurus”. The sports car debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966. The people welcomed him warmly; however, the audience was a bit confused as they were not allowed to open the hood. It was no coincidence: there was no engine under it! As the engine was still in the design phase, the prototype was sent to the Geneva Motor Show with a ballast instead of an engine under the hood. In the end, the Miura proved to be a very good car. Even without an engine, the Miura was able to turn heads and start a new era for Lamborghini.
  9. Lamborghini Countach was produced by the Italian company for 16 years, from 1974 to 1990. This sports car is one of the few Lamborghini models with a name that has nothing to do with bulls or bullfighting. The word “Countach” comes from the Piedmont language spoken in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. This is an expression of excitement or surprise, and “Heavens!” can be translated as “Legend has it that Nuccio Bertone made such an exclamation when he saw the first drawings of the supercar of the future.”
  10. Lamborghini’s story hasn’t always been a success story. In 1987, the American auto giant Chrysler bought it, practically saving it from oblivion. In the same year, the Italian vehicle manufacturer presented a distinctive concept car under the name Portofino. It was a four-door sedan of the guillotine type, powered by a rear-mounted 3.5-liter engine. The car was well-received by the public and helped Lamborghini regain some of its lost prestige. Although it remained only a prototype, its image and design was later embodied in many Chrysler cars.

  11. In 1994, Lamborghini was acquired by an Indonesian investment group. It was a period of uncertainty for the Italian brand. However, German auto giant Volkswagen stepped in and saved the famous vehicle manufacturer. Since 1998, Volkswagen has controlled Lamborghini through the Audi subdivision. Undoubtedly, it was a mutually beneficial partnership for both companies.
  12. The design of the modern Lamborghini is unusual, even for supercars. The steel-cut body style, which has become the signature of most Lamborghini models, makes it look like fighter planes. Designer Filippo Perini admitted that he was inspired by military aviation. While working on the Lamborghini Aventador, he was particularly influenced by the American B-2 and F-22 aircraft.
  13. The Lamborghini V12 engine is the perfect match for speedboats and supercars. This technical symbiosis is not a common thing in the automobile industry, but it has made the luxury boat Riva Aquarama a market leader. Thanks to the high performance and versatility of its incredible Lamborghini V12 engine, the Riva Aquarama is the perfect choice for luxury boaters.
  14. Interestingly, Lamborghini cars are used by the police of the United Arab Emirates and Italy. Makes sense if you think about it; nothing like the world’s fastest police car can distract criminals and attract tourists!
  15. As we mentioned earlier, Feruccio Lamborghini neglected motorsport and tried to stay away from it. Still, the Italian automaker is revising this strict policy because it’s a handicap for an automaker specializing in supercars to ignore motorsport altogether today.Currently, the company has a significant presence in the world of auto racing. The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo is an example of a successful collaboration between two legendary brands. Automobili Lamborghini SpA and Swiss watchmaker Blancpain have teamed up to launch this prestigious international motor racing series. In 2009, the Swiss company even presented a special watch dedicated to this one-brand championship.
  16. It should come as no surprise that the Lamborghini brand has had some of the most impressive achievements in the automobile world. The last one was the 384 km/h speed record set by the Lamborghini Huracan in the half-mile race.

  17. Lamborghini has had a long and fruitful relationship with the Italian wheel manufacturer PIRELLI. PIRELLI tires were used on all Lamborghini vehicles from day one. The Italian automaker even created a special version of the Lamborghini AVENTADOR dedicated to PIRELLI.
  18. The Lamborghini AVENTADOR LP 700-4 700 has an engine that produces 700 horsepower and is equipped with all-wheel drive.
  19. Lamborghini played a pivotal role in the emergence of the world-renowned Pagani automobile brand. Horacio Pagani, the founder of Pagani Automobili SpA, worked as an engineer at Lamborghini until he left because he could not implement his own ideas. In 1988, the famous Argentine contractor, eager to use his designer talent and make his own product, founded a new company, Pagani Automobili SpA.
  20. Today, Lamborghini supercars are powered by either V8 or V12 engines. The ratio of these two engine types is approximately 3:1.
